Scope
The aim of this document is to outline the server requirements for hosting Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premise and Azure for 6 to 8 users
Server Requirements – On Premises
There are two basic ways of implementing Dynamics 365 Business Central
Option 1 – 2-tier Implementation
Such setup will involve one server that will be used for both the SQL and Business Central instances i.e. “Client – Server” scenario.
Required Server Specifications:
- CPU: 4 cores 2.4 GHz
- RAM: 16 GB DD3 or newer
- SSD drive/s for system and application
- HDD drive/s for SQL backups and data
- Windows Server 2016 or newer
- Company grade internet connection
Option 2 – 3-tier Implementation
Such setup will involve one server for SQL and another server for the Business Central instance i.e. “Client – Application Server – Database Server”.
Required BC Server Specifications:
- CPU: 4 cores 2.4 GHz
- RAM: 8 GB DDR3 or newer
- SSD for system and applications
- Windows Server 2016 or newer
- Company grade internet connection
Required SQL Server Specifications:
- CPU: 2 cores 2.4 GHz
- RAM: 8 GB DDR3 or newer
- SSD drive/s for system and SQL system databases
- HDD drive/s for SQL backups and other
- Windows Server 2016 or newer
- MS SQL Server 2016 or newer
- Company grade internet connection
- Both NAV and SQL servers have to operate within the same windows domain
Server Requirements – Azure Hosting
Such setup will involve one virtual server that will be used for Business Central instance hosting, together with Azure SQL, that will host the Business Central database.
Required Server Specifications:
- CPU: 4 cores
- RAM: 8 GB
- Premium SSD drive/s
- Backed up daily to an Azure Vault
- Static public IP address
- Optionally replicated to multiple locations around the world
- An example machine would be F4s VM
Required Azure SQL database Specifications:
- Standard configuration
- Minimum recommended size is S2 (50 DTUs)
